The Sustainable Carnation Committee was established by resolution of the City Council in October 2008 as a task force to provide recommendations about sustainable practices in the community. The Committee consists of seven members who are appointed by the Council. Upon completion of their work, the Committee will sunset in December 2010 unless otherwise directed by the City Council.
Sustainable Carnation Committee Goals
The Sustainable Carnation Committee aims to achieve these goals:

  1. Assist the city in moving forward with the goals of the U. S. Conference of Mayors Agreement on Climate Change;
  2. Plan and implement a community leader’s forum on sustainability in order to learn about local priorities and to engage Carnation residents in a conversation about sustainable practices in our community;
  3. Research current sustainable practices and propose a plan for council review that includes short, medium and long-term goals. This plan will include cost and resource estimates, priority policy proposals and a plan for implementation; and
  4. Report quarterly to the council on the goals and progress of the committee with a plan to be presented in the summer of 2009.
Sustainable Carnation Committee Members
Sustainable Carnation Committee members are appointed by the City Council. A minimum of four members must reside within the city limits, and three members may reside within the Lower Snoqualmie Valley.  The terms of all members will sunset on December 31, 2010, unless otherwise directed by the City Council.
